WHO WE ARE
SO WHAT KIND OF CHURCH ARE YOU?
IT IS COMMON
for members of Redeemer Church to get asked this question. Well, the name of our church is intended to communicate the source, subject, and center of our faith community – “Redeemer.” So what is redemption and who is the Redeemer? For that answer, we go to the Bible.
REDEMPTION IS DELIVERANCE
from the power of an alien dominion and enjoyment of the resulting freedom. People who are redeemed experience deliverance from bondage to freedom. And they don’t do it on their own. Redemption is accomplished by an outside party. And it involves a ransom and a substitute. A ransom is a payment that is made to deliver someone from bondage. A substitute is something or someone that is offered as the ransom payment.
we can say that…
…“redemption is deliverance from the bondage of sin to the freedom of life with God by the perfect substitutionary sacrifice of Jesus Christ.”
The amazing thing about this spiritual redemption is that JESUS is the Redeemer, the ransom payment, the substitute all in one. He is the outside party who comes to redeem us. He is the ransom payment. And He is the substitute. Instead of us paying the penalty for our sin, He takes our place and experiences the penalty that we deserve.
JESUS IS OUR REDEEMER
HE HAS DELIVERED US FROM BONDAGE TO FREEDOM
freedom from rebellion to worship,
from isolation to fellowshIp,
from depravity to discipleship,
from selfishness to mission.
